Director Indrajith Lankesh has not fallen prey to the pressure of expectation. His strength is identifying the needs and interests of the audience. He knew that Kannada audience loves watching Tamil and Telugu films. This seems to have prompted him to merge ‘Gajini’ and ‘Manmathudu’ into one as ‘Aishwarya’. His trick has worked. The film has all the elements to entertain the family audience.
Abisekh (Upendra) has only one male employee in his advertising office and the rest are pretty girls. He is the manager of his uncle's business organization. Good-looking girl Aishwarya (Deepika Padukone) joins him as assistant manager. But he doesn’t want her from the very beginning and his mind is preoccupied on how to suspend her. He even goes to the extent of locking her up in the bathroom and earn good name by stealing her idea for a lip stick ad. She finally leaves the job after Abisekh screams at her for not turning up for an important meeting. Now, Aishwarya approaches Abisekh’s uncle, the MD of the company regarding the turn out of events. Surprisingly, she is made the manager of the company and replaces Abisekh.
Now, the MD brings to light Abisekh’s past in a long flash back. Abisekh was a noted personality in ad world, who fall prey to Anjali’s (Daisy Boppanna) inner beauty and her attitude towards physically handicap children. In the meantime, Anjali was using Abisekh’s name to get more job. Anjali didn’t recognize him when he first came to her life, as he didn’t let her know his riches. Anjali was surprised on learning the truth. However, tragedy struck and their happiness didn’t last long. The rest of the film is on how Abisekh changes his attitude towards women and how Aishwarya and Abisekh finally express their love for each other.
Upendra looks cool in the film and his performance is commendable. His new short hairdo, colorful costumes and cooling glass are a treat to watch. In short, no one can suit the role like him. People will not believe that it is Deepika Padukone’s debut film on seeing her performance. Bright future awaits this pretty girl. The other heroine Daisy’s role is small yet she has done sweetly. Komal, Dayanand and Doddanna have managed to bring the house down. The film is technically fine with good music scored by Rajesh Ramanath. Of course, the numbers “Aishwarya….” and “Manmatha” are the picks of the album.
On the whole, it is a good entertainer. It has all the elements to make the family audience happy. You should not miss this film.
