Her last Kannada release ‘Rama Shama Bhama’ did very well at the box-office and her other film ‘Tavarina Siri’ was released recently. Now, she shares about her films, experiences in Bollywood and much more.
Excerpts from the interview:
You have been away from Bangalore for quite a long time now. What makes you come back?
I have been longing to come back home, as I miss the city and the people. I also would like to thank my fans and the film industry. Moreover, my film ‘Tavarina Siri’ was release a few days ago. It is my first release after ‘Rama Shama Bhama’. I enjoyed working with Shivraj Kumar, Ashitha, Ramu and everybody associated with ‘Tavarina Siri’.
What role do you play in ‘Tavarina Siri’?
I have been playing only modern roles till ‘Tavarina Siri’ happened. I play a traditional role in this film and it’s really challenging. I have given my best to the character I played.
What are the films you have on hand?
I am looking forward to act with newcomer Prasanna in a new Tamil film based on an English film. The makers of ‘Ghajini’ are going to make this film too. Then I have a Kannada film titled ‘Aishwarya’. It has Upendra and Deepika Padukone in the cast and Indrajit Lankesh is going to direct it.
Do you have any film in Bollywood?
I have two projects in hand. I am going to play the lead role in a new film to be produced by Subhash Ghai. It is a performance-oriented film and the script is really interesting. Then I have a film for a big banner. I will act with a hero who is set to go solo. I can’t reveal more than this as par the agreement. However, it will be a great entertainer.
Being a girl from south, how do you manage to survive the stiff competition in Bollywood?
It depends on how you perform. If you do your job well you are in. if not, you are out. There may be people in the industry who take advantage of girls but professionalism can fight it. Casting couch is slowly fading and serious filmmakers will never resort to it now. Garam Masala confirmed my lace in Bollywood. In fact, I am yet to let its success out of my head.
Will you continue to act in Kannada even if you make it really big in Bollywood?
I would continue acting in Kannada but the offers have to be good and meaty. My Kannada film ‘Rama Shama Bhama’ is my biggest hit after ‘Garam Masala’. So, I awe my success to Kannada film industry too.
